Uncommon Art Residency
Founded in 2017 by Erik Warner, the Uncommon Art Residency began at the Sound View Greenport, in the North Fork of Long Island, and expanded to the Anvil Hotel in Jackson Hole in 2020. The exchange runs both directions: artists bring new work into Jackson’s creative community, meet the people who live and make here, and carry the valley back into their own practice at home. We’ve hosted 40 artists in Jackson Hole, with more than $50,000 in lodging, meals, and studio support. In 2025 we received 175 applications for six places — about one in thirty.
About The Uncommon Art Residency
For nine years the residency has hosted contemporary artists, musicians, composers, playwrights, and craftspeople across both sites. We look for up-and-coming artists — those for whom uninterrupted time is still the hardest thing to come by.
In Jackson Hole, Travis Walker directs the program with support from the Art Association of Jackson Hole and the Center for the Arts. A full-time artist and the founder of Teton ArtLab, Travis keeps the residency rooted in the working arts community here. Residents have studio access at the Art Association — ceramics, printmaking, photography — alongside people who live and make here year-round.
Uncommon Art Exhibit
Our annual Uncommon Art Residency Show presents work by artists from the Jackson and New York residencies. For most residents it’s the first time their work has been shown in Jackson, and the show is what turns a two-week stay into an ongoing relationship with our valley.
The 2026 show runs August 4 to September 28 at the Center for the Arts Theatre Gallery, 240 S Glenwood St, Jackson. Admission is free.

Uncommon Art Residency at Anvil Hotel Jackson
Applications are available starting June 1, 2026 and closing September 1, 2026 through Teton Art Lab.
Each artist in residence will receive between 1-2 weeks of complimentary accommodations at Anvil Hotel in Downtown Jackson, $200/week cash stipend and $200 in dining credits at Glorietta Trattoria, the hotel’s onsite Italian restaurant. In exchange, we ask each artist to offer an artist talk and/or demonstration that is open to the public. Artists have access to nearby shared studio spaces for ceramics, printmaking, photography, and more at the nearby Art Association of Jackson Hole.

Participating Jackson Artists
These artists are selected through a competitive application process open to any artist over the age of 18. For 2026, we selected 6 artists from 175 applications. These artists were chosen based on their unique backgrounds and the strength of their work. We invite the public to interact with these artists during free talks and studio visits at the Art Association. These events are made possible through Old Bill’s Fun Run and a grant from the Cultural Council of Jackson Hole.
