An Exploration of Inspiration Through Sound, Movement, Visual Arts & Craft
Founded in 2017 by Erik Warner, the Uncommon Art Residency has blossomed into a sanctuary for creative minds, inviting artists from across the nation to explore, collaborate, and ignite new ideas. Initially housed at the Sound View Greenport, a hotel on Long Island, New York, the residency expanded in 2020 to the Anvil Hotel in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. These creative havens foster a vibrant ecosystem where community, collaboration, and connection are at the heart of the experience.
The residency program encourages artistic expression in all forms, from performances and open working sessions to exhibitions and lectures. Each artist is invited to share their work and process with the public, creating a dynamic dialogue between artist and community. Past residents have hosted classes, performances, and unique community experiences, enriching both their art and the lives of those they touch.
For the past seven years, the residency has welcomed a diverse array of contemporary artists, musicians, composers, playwrights, and craftsmen. Through immersive exploration of their crafts and the unique influence of their surroundings, residents have birthed fresh perspectives and transformative work. The merging of location, community, and creativity has resulted in a dynamic exchange that shapes both the artists and the locales they engage with.
In Jackson Hole, Travis Walker, the Director of the Uncommon Art Residency, orchestrates this inspiring program with the support of local partners, including the Art Association of Jackson Hole & the Center For The Arts. A full-time artist and founder of Teton ArtLab, Travis ensures that the residency thrives within the rich cultural fabric of the region. Artists are invited to work in the vibrant studios of the Art Association’s Center for the Arts, where the rugged landscape and creative spirit of Jackson Hole inspire groundbreaking new works.

Apply Now for the 2026 Uncommon Art Residency
Applications are available starting June 1, 2025 and closing September 1, 2025 through Teton Art Lab.
Each artist in residence will receive between 1-2 weeks of complimentary accommodations at Anvil Hotel in Downtown Jackson, $200/week cash stipend and $200 in dining credits at Glorietta Trattoria, the hotel’s onsite Italian restaurant. In exchange, we ask each artist to offer an artist talk and/or demonstration that is open to the public. Artists have access to nearby shared studio spaces for ceramics, printmaking, photography, and more at the nearby Art Association of Jackson Hole.
These artists are selected through a competitive application process open to any artist over the age of 18. For 2025, we selected 6 artists from 175 applications. These artists were chosen based on their unique backgrounds and the strength of their work. We invite the public to interact with these artists during free talks and studio visits at the Art Association. These events are made possible through Old Bill’s Fun Run and a grant from the Cultural Council of Jackson Hole.
